If I may, I have one thing to add - I believe Maya should absolutely be honest about her past. There is nothing to be ashamed of. However, just as she wants her partner to be accepting of her as a whole, complex person, she has to do the same. And in accepting her partner as a complex person, understand that his immediate reaction to her past may not be the best reflection of who he is or how he really feels about her.

He may need time to process his feelings. He may crave her patience and understanding. This doesn't give him a right to be judgemental or abusive. And if that's the route he takes to process what he's been told then he needs to go. If ever Maya chooses to share her past, I hope she is able to do so safely.
